My Optimal Wellbeing

Hello everyone! When considering my wellbeing and rating it one a scale of 1 - 10 it is difficult because I feel there are many factors which contribute to wellbeing. In some areas I am stronger than others, however, keeping this in perspective this is what I have decided. My physical wellbeing is about a 9 because there is always room for improvement. For instance, I would like to lose a few more pounds and I need to train for a century ride next fall. In order to reach these goals I am trying to be more disciplined in my eating habits. My training for the winter is going to change slightly to include more riding on my trainer, perhaps, 2-3 sessions per week designed to strengthen different biking skills. My spiritual wellbeing is about an 8. I do consider myself to be spiritual, however, I would like spirituality to fit better into my daily routine. I am working on this by making an effort to center myself daily. My psychological wellbeing is also around an 8. Over the past 2 years I have had major upsets in my world. However, I am good at getting a grip on these things, as well as, putting them into perspective and moving forward. Even still the ups and down can take there toll. I make an effort daily to keep my psyche in check by taking care of my physical and spiritual being. A healthy diet and daily exercise does wonders for keeping my head straight so to speak! I have also developed a great peer group who are like minded for the necessary social support that everyone needs! Nurturing these aspects in life will help me move closer to that 10....AS for the relaxation exercise this week, well, I am not finding these relaxing really. I prefer silence and my own thoughts to someone talking to me and giving me directions on how to relax. I find the voices distracting. See you all on the boards!

  1. Kelly,
I enjoyed your blog. I had fun trying to rate myself and have noticed that I rate lower in areas because of recent traumas. I did think about what it would take for me to be a ten and I am not sure that I would ever use that rating. I always see room to improve in each of these areas (not that I stress over it). I guess I see life as a continuous journey that we are on, but there isn't finish line.

  2. Oh yes life is a continous journey that is for certian! So, even if we do not like where we are right now we can journey on to some where new. I also could not ever see a 10 rating. I feel even after I have accomplished a goal it just leaves room for new goals..hahaha! Journey on my friend!

  3. Sorry to hear that you found the relaxation techniques distracting. I personally like the techniques because oftentimes I cannot concentrate enough to relax. The exercise helps me to focus and I think I'll be using it in the future even once this class is over.

  4. Mindy,
I really like your goals for improving your wellness. I think by implementing good eating habits is a very smart idea. Many people lose site that good physical wellness does not only come from a good physical activity routine, but also by implementing smart eating habits. I may start focusing more on my eating habits now that the weather is becoming slightly harder to work out in.

I also want to say that we had very similar responses to the relaxation techniques. I could not stay focused long enough to benefit from the exercise.

    Great Blog!

  5. Hello Renee, it just goes to show that we are all different and it is important to develop our own individual techniques!

  6. Hello Mindy, We must always consider the whole person including diet and exercise. My eating habits are so connected to the rest of me it is not even funny. My diet affects how I sleep, my energy, and even how I function on a daily basis. I can truly tell when I have been eating too much of the bad stuff. Again, just another example of how the whole person is connected.

  7. Hi Kelly, I too find it difficult to rate the three most important dimensions in my life. Like you I am stronger in some areas in my life then others. However, the issue that most perplexed my mind when looking at my psychological, physical and spiritual state was my awareness of it all. I have a strong belief that if one is aware of their strengths and weakness it counts more then moving towards the goal. Personally I believe that goals and aspirations, like life, are ever changing so being fully and holistically aware of ones self is key to true self improvement.

  8. Now this week I found the relaxation exercise working! lol
From reading your previous post, I would have had to guess you were a 10 in all the areas already. You are very inspiring! See you next week :)

  9. I totally agree with your point Urban! One must be aware of themselves, as well as, their strengths and weakness in order to be successful. Other wise we are just spinning our wheels!
